10 Tips and Pointers to Effectively Communicate Progress and Track Your Success Number

  1. The Success Number needs to be visible to everyone, be updated frequently, and be deeply understood by all employees. People need to know what is happening. If they do not know, then they will think it is not important and engagement and commitment will drop.  
  2. Do not make the board too complicated. Think carefully about what will be posted, consider plotting it manually, and make it easy and simple to update. 
  3. It needs to be clear who will update the visual boards and they need to be properly trained on what to do. They also need to understand the importance of consistent and accurate updates.  
  4. Meeting cadence is critical in order to review progress, give help that is needed, develop understanding, communicate progress, get support and engagement, and focus everyone on what they must do to support.  
  5. The roll down of results from the company level meeting is just as important as the roll-up meetings. This roll down will send the message to your employees that communicating progress and results to them is important. It will show them that you are serious about engaging them in the success of the company and that they are a critical part of the team. 
  6. Celebrating success frequently and for small achievements is hugely important. People want to be recognized for progress, love winning, and want to celebrate when they win. It is the key to making this fun. 
  7. Make sure that you are encouraging the development of TeamPlay and that the teams own the TeamPlay. TeamPlay is where significant progress occurs and implementing them is really important for engagement and success.  
  8. As leaders, you need to look at your Success Number as the most important initiative in the company. You need to talk about it continually, be deeply familiar with how the company is doing relative to achieving the Success Number, and spend time working to achieve the Success Number.
  9. As leaders you must continually be out encouraging, supporting, and coaching everyone in the organization. Listening to what they have to say, what they need, and what they are achieving. They will ultimately determine if the Success Number is achieved.
